Taikoo Place proudly unveils its annual flagship art project, 'ArtisTree Selects: Imagination Investments', featuring the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong by internationally acclaimed artist Coco Capitán. The exhibition is one of the highlights of SWIREPROPERTIES Art Month, taking place from 19 March to 26 April 2026, coinciding with Art Basel Hong Kong. The exhibition spans from ArtisTree to the entire Taikoo Place, comprising a trilogy of artistic installations that explore themes of memory, desire, and human connection, inviting viewers to embark on a resonant and profound dialogue between contemporary art and urban culture.
Born in Seville, Spain, and currently based in London, UK, Coco Capitán is hailed as one of the most influential artists of her generation, with a practice spanning art, photography, and fashion. Working primarily with film photography, she incorporates her distinct hand-written texts into her works, earning international recognition for her unique artistic vocabulary. Her textual works combine a sense of humor with a nuanced personal sentiment, continuously capturing the attention of art critics and cultural spheres over the past decade. Her works have been exhibited in numerous top art institutions worldwide, and she has collaborated with several international fashion brands, showcasing her influence across diverse cultural domains.
The large-scale exhibition 'ArtisTree Selects: Imagination Investments', marking Capitán's debut in Hong Kong, transforms Taikoo Place into an artistic journey through urban space, incorporating photography, cloth-based paintings and canvas works, poetry, site-specific creations, interactive installations, and public art. This journey commences at ArtisTree, extends through public art installations in textual form, and concludes at the top floor of One Taikoo Place. The month-long exhibition invites viewers to contemplate how memory and meaning are formed and preserved through time, images, poetic words, and human connections.
'We are thrilled to partner with Coco Capitán to present her first exhibition in Hong Kong,' said Gwyneth Ang, General Manager of Taikoo Place, SWIREPROPERTIES. 'It is not just an art exhibition, but an innovative and captivating journey of artistic discovery, seamlessly weaving contemporary art into every corner of Taikoo Place – from the dedicated multi-purpose venue ArtisTree and the top floor of One Taikoo Place, to the meandering pedestrian corridors. This truly embodies our vision of establishing Taikoo Place as a creative and cultural urban landmark, enriching and integrating into the daily lives of our tenants and the community. We strive to create an environment where people can reflect through art or be inspired to embrace new perspectives.'
'I have always been drawn to places shaped by movement, especially the rhythms and accumulated stories of people coming and going; and the bustling city of Hong Kong is a perfect example,' shared Coco Capitán. 'These elements have had a profound impact on my practice, serving not only as figurative symbols but also as real-life spaces that carry desire and freedom. I hope this exhibition naturally blends art into everyday life. From the loneliness of a guiding sailor to the intimate act of preserving a fading memory, I want viewers to slow down, immerse themselves in the present, and capture a sense of inner resonance and reflection throughout their journey.'
A Threefold Dialogue of Art, Time, and Place
The first chapter, Naïvy, presented at ArtisTree, stems from Capitán's long-standing fascination with the ocean, exploring the dual nature of the sea as both a tangible landscape and a metaphorical state. The exhibition brings together over 50 photographic works, paintings, and textual creations, celebrating the fragility of freedom while nostalgically recalling youth. In this open and boundless space, the figure of a 'sailor' repeatedly appears, embodying autonomy and anonymity, prompting reflections on the delicate tension between a sense of belonging and the desire to wander. Visitors will then receive an invitation to become 'lost memory collectors', embarking on the next chapter of the exhibition.
The second chapter, I Read While I Walk, is a new large-scale text-based art installation by the artist, stretching nearly half a kilometer and connecting ArtisTree and One Taikoo Place across Taikoo Place. Comprised of 13 of Capitán's signature hand-written aphorisms and verses, the work seamlessly integrates into the community's walking paths, transforming daily strides into a narrative that unfolds with each step, reshaping people's everyday paces, and revealing the urban stories hidden in the rhythms of life.
With the previous invitation in hand, viewers can unlock the third chapter, Memory Adoption Bureau, to complete this journey of memory transformation as 'lost memory collectors'. This chapter transforms over 10,000 square feet of office space on the 67th floor of One Taikoo Place into an interactive exhibition, reimagined as a poetic 'Bureau of Lost Memories'. Inspired by an archive of over 10,000 old photographs, the artist has created this participatory and site-specific installation, inviting viewers to become guardians of past memories and take part in an intimate ritual of emotional inheritance. In the exhibition, each visitor selects a forgotten photograph and completes an 'adoption' registration, transforming the usual act of viewing into a personalized process of participation, where the act of safeguarding, connecting, and prolonging memories takes center stage.
Visitors can also bring a piece of the artist's imaginative world into their daily lives by purchasing exclusive collectibles from a pop-up gift shop within ArtisTree, featuring a carefully curated selection of Capitán's unique works.
A Voyage of Imagination Sets Sail Once More
March marks only the beginning of Coco Capitán's journey with the ArtisTree Selects flagship project. The exhibition will return in the second half of the year with a new chapter, presenting fresh artistic creations. Through her distinct and penetrating perspective, Capitán will sketch an emotional portrait of the city and reveal the soul that lies beneath the bustling surfaces. More details about the new exhibition will be announced later on Taikoo Place's social media platforms.
